My Next Chapter: I Don’t Know What’s Next, and That’s Okay

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my next chapter.

Not because I have some big announcement to make. Not because I suddenly have my entire life figured out. And definitely not because I have a perfectly organized five-year plan sitting somewhere waiting for me.

Actually, it’s the complete opposite.

I don’t know exactly what my next chapter looks like.

And for the first time, I’m starting to believe that maybe that’s okay.

At 43 and divorced, my life looks different from what I once imagined it would. There were plans I thought would last forever, dreams I thought would happen differently, and a version of my future that I had already written in my head.

Life had other plans.

So now, I find myself standing somewhere between who I used to be and who I’m becoming.

And surprisingly, I’m beginning to enjoy meeting this version of myself.

I’m Trying New Things

Recently, I’ve been giving myself permission to experience life differently.

I attended my first Galentine’s event, got dressed up, put on my jewelry and shoes, and walked a red carpet. I laughed, met new friends, reconnected with old ones, and had more fun than I’d had in a long time.

I attended a women’s retreat where I learned what it meant to become unburdened. I sat in a sister circle with other women, released some things I had been carrying, and gave myself permission to heal in the moment.

I’ve been discovering that my next chapter may not begin with one huge life-changing decision.

Maybe it begins with little moments when I choose myself.

I’m Learning to Put Some Things Down

I’ve spent a lot of my life being responsible.

Being dependable.

Being the person people can count on.

Being strong even when I was tired.

But I’m learning that being strong doesn’t mean carrying everything.

There are worries I need to release.

There are expectations I need to stop putting on myself.

There are things from my past that don’t deserve space in my future.

And there are situations I simply cannot control.

My next chapter needs room for peace.

I’m Rediscovering Me

One of the biggest questions I’ve been asking myself is:

Who am I now?

Not who I was as somebody’s wife.

Not who I am at work.

Not who everyone else needs me to be.

Just me.

What makes me happy?

What do I want to experience?

Where do I want to go?

Who do I want around me?

What makes me feel alive?

What does peace look like for me?

I’m still answering those questions.

And maybe that’s the beautiful part.

I Want More Than Survival

For a long time, life can become about getting through the day.

Wake up. Go to work. Handle responsibilities. Take care of everybody and everything. Come home. Get ready to do it again.

But I don’t want my next chapter to simply be about getting through life.

I want to actually experience it.

I want more weekends that make me smile when I think about them.

I want to travel.

I want to laugh until my stomach hurts.

I want meaningful friendships.

I want quiet mornings.

I want new experiences.

I want to walk into rooms I’ve never been in before.

I want to become comfortable doing things by myself.

I want to take care of my body, my mind, and my spirit.

I want to create a life that feels good when nobody else is watching.

And yes, somewhere along the way, maybe love will find its way into this chapter too.

But I’m learning that my life doesn’t have to be on hold while I wait for it.

I’m Still Becoming

I don’t have a dramatic ending for this story because I’m still living it.

I’m still healing.

Still growing.

Still discovering.

Still letting go.

Still trying.

Still changing.

Still becoming.

And I’m giving myself permission to do all of that without rushing.

At 43, I don’t need to have every answer.

I don’t need to know exactly where I’ll be five years from now.

I don’t need to compare my life to anyone else’s timeline.

I just need enough courage to keep turning the page.

Because maybe my next chapter isn’t about starting over.

Maybe it’s about starting from where I am—with everything I’ve learned, everything I’ve survived, and everything I’m still becoming.

So here’s to my next chapter.

To choosing myself without feeling guilty.

To saying yes to new experiences.

To releasing old burdens.

To finding joy again.

To discovering what I want.

To becoming comfortable with the unknown.

And most importantly, to creating a life that feels like mine.

I don’t know exactly what’s coming next.

But for the first time in a long time, instead of being afraid of the blank pages ahead…

I’m excited to see what I write on them. ❤️
